About terre des hommes Germany
terre des hommes Germany is an international children's rights organisation that promotes equitable development without racial, religious, political, cultural or gender-based discrimination since 1967. Together with our local partner organisations in 39 countries, we implement over 380 projects in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe. terre des hommes Germany is an independent non-governmental organisation that promotes civic engagement and the participation of children and youths in all aspects of its work. terre des hommes sees its mission in strengthening children and realising children's rights for all children. Every child has the right to live and to develop in the best possible way. We are convinced that sustainable development is possible for all people if the interests of children and future generations are respected and realised.
About the project
The province of Svay Rieng is strongly affected by climate change and its negative impacts. Floods, droughts and crop failures hit hardest the rural population who depend on agriculture. Ineffective, unsustainable agricultural practices, lack of year-round access to clean drinking water and lack of hygienic disposal of faeces pose a threat to the health of the population, especially children. Therefore, the project encourages marginalized families to apply healthy practices in the field of WASH and agriculture that improve their living conditions and promote sustainable development and the right of the child to a healthy environment. It also organizes schools and communities, especially children and young people, to advocate for the rights to a healthy environment and implement actions to protect the environment, WASH activities (in collaboration with the local government) and sustainable agriculture promotion.
