Announcement Description

Landesa is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to ending global poverty by securing land rights for rural communities around the world. Founded in 1981, Landesa has worked in more than 65 countries, with its central office in the United States (Seattle, Washington, and Washington, DC) and regional programming in China, India, Liberia, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Thailand.

Since 2022, Landesa has been implementing the Coastal Livelihoods and Mangroves Project, an initiative that seeks to strengthen coastal tenure and resource rights and support the protection of mangrove ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

In Cambodia, Landesa works with government agencies, community fisheries (CFIs), local authorities, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to strengthen community rights, resource governance, and sustainable management of coastal and mangrove areas. The project places particular emphasis on enhancing collaboration and strengthening decision-making among community fisheries, CFi committees, relevant authorities at national and sub-national levels, and other stakeholders in the targeted coastal provinces.

The Prek Kampong Smach Marine Fisheries Management Area (MFMA), located in Prey Nob District, Preah Sihanouk Province, is an important coastal area that requires effective coordination among relevant authorities, community fisheries, and other local stakeholders. Developing a practical and locally informed five-year MFMA Management Plan requires information and inputs from those directly involved in and affected by the management of the area.
