The WWT is a conservation charity that protects wetlands for wildlife and people. We conserve, restore and create wetlands. For over a decade we have worked in Cambodia to conserve and restore key wetland areas, balancing conservation with sustainable livelihoods and influencing national and international conservation policies. Our programme has been working closely to support local communities and relevant stakeholders to support their capacity building to enhance effectiveness in addressing community challenges.

Recognizing the need for effective leadership at the grassroots level, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) has initiated an capacity building support, aimed at enhancing leadership skills within local communities in both AP and BPL sites. This is supported by L’OCCITANE Foundation, a donor committed to fostering community empowerment in leading sustainable development and conservation.

This training to strengthen local leaders with essential skills in communication, conflict resolution, team management, and decision-making. By enhancing these leadership capabilities could fostering active participation in local governance, strengthen community resilience, and improve overall socio-economic conditions and conservation efforts.

Overall objective: To enhance the leadership capabilities of local community members ( AP & BPL) through capacity-building initiatives, fostering effective decision-making, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that contribute to the sustainable development of the community.

Reporting to: Project Coordinators (Cambodia)

Specific Objectives

  • To develop training manual to enhance leadership skills within the local community ( AP and BPL sites) to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary for effective leadership.
  • Facilitate interactive workshops focused on key leadership skills, including communication, conflict resolution, and team management.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and coaching to emerging leaders, fostering their growth and confidence in leadership roles.

Expected Outcomes

  • To improve leadership skills including communication, conflict resolution and team management
  • Foster community engagement in local governance and initiatives which is leading to stronger community collaboration and improving decision-making abilities.
  • promote collaboration and networking among development stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and resource sharing.

Target Audience

  • Aunlung Pring- Kompot Province: 15 local community ( CPA members, rice mill committee, ranger & field staffs )
  • Boeung Prek Lpove- Takeo Province: 19 participants (PDoE, communities, WWT)

Scope of Work

  • Develop a comprehensive training module presentation translated in Khmer language focusing on: (1)Introduction to Leadership, (2) Communication Skills, (3) Conflict Resolution, (4)Team Building and Collaboration mechanisms & (5) Ethics in Leadership ( Leadership styles and characteristics)
  • Coordinate with WWT’s Project Coordinators in both sites to develop training check list (list of equipment required), contents, agenda, handouts and others.
  • Deliver the training workshop for local community at Kompot ( AP ) and Takeo ( BPL) for 2 days including pretest, post-test and trainee’s feedback
