The Opportunity

We are seeking a Communications Officer to lead the development of communications materials for the Cambodia Programme, including sourcing and curating stories and audiovisual materials, and leading on the dissemination of high-quality, relevant and impactful content through social media, press and other platforms. You will be able to use social media, storytelling and graphic design skills to make a real difference by communicating the solutions and challenges facing threatened species and habitats in Cambodia.

Purpose:

The Communications Officer will deliver key communications support for the Cambodia programme, leading efforts to raise the profile of Fauna & Flora’s work andcoordinating, sourcing and disseminating strategically-focused, high-quality content.

Duties
  • With support from the Communications Manager, Programmes, develop a country-level communications strategy, defining key objectives, target audiences and tactics. 
  • Driven by the communications strategy, source and curate strong content from the field to be used on a range of external platforms
  • Respond to information coming from the field and help to refine this into strategically-focused and powerful pieces of content.
  • Keep the Communications Manager, Programmes and the Country Director, Cambodia Programme, informed of emerging communications opportunities and provide additional information where requested.
  • Help to ensure communications outputs are up to date, factually correct and in alignment with the Cambodia programme’s strategy.
  • Manage the Cambodia programme’s social media channels and create and schedule engaging content
  • Where needed, assist with capturing images and short video clips
  • Organise and tag photo and video assets produced by the Cambodia team and share them with the UK-based communications team. 
  • Where needed, identify spokespeople to feature in global communications activities. 
  • Translate communication materials from English to Khmer and vice versa. 
  • Assist in coordinating film and photography shoots in collaboration with the UK-based communications team.
  • In collaboration with FFI’s Media Relations Manager and the Country Director for FFI Cambodia, support with media activity, including:
  • creating and distributing press releases and photographs 
  • preparing and arranging interviews with media, both nationally and occasionally internationally 
  • helping with reactive media requests
  • Input into the design of communications elements of grant proposals and deliver communications requirements outlined in grant agreements. Develop and implement communications and outreach activities for important events.
  • Help to create and design printed communications materials, such as brochures, to promote the Cambodia programme’s work.Act as a global brand champion and ensure the Fauna & Flora brand is consistently applied.
  • Flag any reputational risks to the Country Director and the Programme Managers.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties which are consistent with the post and the aims and objectives of the position

The Opportunity

The FFI Cambodia Programme is currently recruiting for a skilled and committed Marine Biodiversity Officer. This is a full-time position on a rolling contract.

We are looking for an individual with marine monitoring and research skills to strengthen the largest marine conservation programme in Cambodia, with a focus on species conservation and marine habitats (seagrass, coral and mangroves) and informing national governance and policy. This complements FFI s work on Cambodia’s Marine Protected Area network, and on the issue of marine plastic pollution.

The Marine Biodiversity Officer will support our conservation activities in coastal Cambodia, and involves ecological marine research, report writing, supporting training workshops and engagement with government.

Duties
  • Conduct and support marine biodiversity activities and MPA development (60%)
  • Support in-water marine habitat surveys, specifically for coral reefs, seagrass and mangroves, using appropriate methods, in collaboration with the FFI team and partners;
  • Support the mapping of marine habitats for long-term assessments
  • Support marine biodiversity survey training programmes working towards the development of governmental marine monitoring teams.
  • Assist with data analysis and report writing for marine habitat and threatened species surveys.
  • Support the logistics required for the organisation of field surveys.
  • Support the species project through coordination, data collection and analysis.
  • Assist the Project Manager in the development of new site-specific monitoring protocols (i.e. Seagrass in Koh Rong).
  • When applicable, join local partners with their marine conservation activities.
  • Support the MPA project team with participatory mapping and stakeholder consultations.
  • Assist with the creation of socio-economic and seafood value chain technical reports
  • Coordinate programme outreach and engagement (20%)
  • Support the Research Officer with the organisation of key events such as World Oceans Day, PEMSEA East Asian Seas congress, and other national and international conferences or events as deemed appropriate;
  • When necessary, support the species project for engagement with the government and navy at technical working groups and training workshops.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of participatory mapping and stakeholder engagement for MPA design and marine species conservation.
  • Assist with the engagement of the government on species and marine habitat conservation.
  • Support the relationship with data sharing partners for the accessibility of project data to the wider Cambodian audience.
  • Support programme delivery and administration (20%)
  • Support the CMCP team in the development of quarterly and annual workplans;
  • Support with the development of technical reports and scientific publications
  • Prepare budgets for field trips and clearances with accompanying receipts and field reports promptly;
  • Support the CMCP team with field logistics, including fieldwork, travel arrangements, meeting coordination, and communication with local partners;
  • Assist with translation and interpretation between English and Khmer;
  • Where needed, attend meetings, workshops and conferences as a CMCP representative and promote and report on project activities;
  • Assist with other duties as are reasonably required and agreed with your line manager.

  • Strong swimming skills and ability to work confidently with a team in the water.
