Overview

The Communications and Media Intern supports IJM Cambodia’s Communications Team in developing and sharing compelling stories and key messages in both Khmer and English for national, regional, and global audiences. This includes creating social media content that aligns with IJM Cambodia’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. The intern will contribute to the development of creative content, media coordination, and brand consistency across all IJM Cambodia publications and platforms. Depending on your level of experience, your role may involve some of the following responsibilities, as well as other relevant duties assigned by the Country Director or Supervisor. 

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Identify and develop stories and news items on IJM programs for HQ materials such as: News from the Field, IJM Justice Briefings, Quarterly Reports, web updates, fundraising pieces, PowerPoint presentations and IJM speeches; 
  • Check facts and use research skills to help put IJM work into regional and global context; 
  • Maintain a file containing articles in newspapers and internet of interest; 
  • Write issue-focused stories to highlight IJM's work; 
  • Serve as an internal, entrepreneurial reporter to capture the stories and news items that describe the work of IJM; 
  • Draft talking point after significant events for local media; and 
  • Create and maintain press release list with local and national newspapers and magazines. 
Expected Profile of Candidates
Languages:
  • Khmer - Fluent
  • English - Fluent
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate Degree in or Freshly graduated Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Arts/Humanities, or a related field.
Skills & Knowledge:
General & Technical Skills
  • Experience in content creation, social media engagement, and production storytelling is desirable.
  • A portfolio of written or visual work that demonstrates creativity and adaptability to different audiences is preferred.
  • Perfect in Khmer written and Khmer - English translation (written and verbal) required; experience with legal or technical content translation is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing and social media management (Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Great knowledge of Adobe, or other design tools, is an advantage. (added for practical relevance)
