GRET is a French NGO that has been actively fighting poverty and inequalities since 1976. There are 700 prefessionals working for GRET in 28 countries. GRET started its activities in Cambodia since 1988. Currently GRET is working in serveral sectors such as Water and Sanitation, Agroecology, Irrigation, Nutrition, Value Chains, Land governance and Social Protection.

Since 2010, GRET, in collaboration withCIRD, has been implementing APICI project, in order to develop a sustainable agriculture for smallholder farmers, in-Siem Reap province. It aims at increasing incomes and at improving the livelihood of smallholder farmers through the development of sustainable agriculture by the intensification and diversification of agricultural productions and the strengthening of producers’ organizations and their access to market. Currently the project activities are implemented in 54 villages, located in the districts of Sotr Nikum and Prasat Bakong. GRET is looking for a Cambodian candidate for the position of Agriculture Specialist.

Agriculture Specialist (1 Position)

Position Summary

  • The position is full time job base in Sotr Nikum district, Siem Reap province

Main duties for Agriculture specialist

The Agriculture Specialisit will be responsbile of the livestock activities, the developement of cooperatives businesses and market access in linkage with this production and for the supervision and data collection of all the activities in a geographic area of 12 villages in the project targeted area.

Expectations - Duties, Responsibilities
  • On livestock production:
  • Identify community potential, issues, needs and problems
  • Gather and develop technical references for support to farmers, design adapted training currciulum and protocol for demonstration farms
  • Provide adapted advises to farmers, train farmers and accompany them in the implementation of recommendation and monitor the results
  • Propose innovations to improve livestock production
  • Strenghen pilot farmers to become trainers in livestock production and share their knoweldge with their peers
  • Organize exchanges visits and workshop for experience sharing
  • On cooperatives’ collective businesses:
  • Support cooperatives to develop products quality standards and certify the quality
  • Support cooperatives to design viable and businesses plans adapated to market demand
  • Ensure that cooperatives follow their rules and quality standards
  • Advise cooperatives leaders
  • On geographic supervision for APICI overall activities:
  • Technical support on agroecology to beneficiaries 
  • Respond for technical follow-up and advice to farmers on chicken, rice, vegetables and saving group in 12 villages in Popel commune.
  • On coordination, communication and reporting:
  • Coordinate with other technicians / advisors and with other projects
  • Coordinate with local partners and strengthen partnerships
  • Capitalize on project livestock experiences
  • Collect data on livestock and all required data in 12 villages for MnE purpose
  • Report about the progress and result of field activities
  • Participate in project proposal writing
  • Any other duty according to the project needs and priorities.
Requirements - Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in animal health science or other relevant academic background
  • At least 3 years’ experience related to improvement of livestock value chain and agriculture cooperative governance and collective businesses
  • Background on field facilitation/mobilization of farmers groups and linkages to market
  • Good knowledge of rural development on livelihood improvement project
  • Computer literate especially Ms Word, Ms Excel, Ms Power point, Internet-email etc.
  • Dynamic, honest, committed and hardworking,
  • Good communication and team working
  • Fluent in writing and speaking Khmer and English

Conditions and starting date:
